Ibikunle Amosun: My Mother’s Miraculous Pregnancy Story
Former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has for the first time shared the astonishing story of his mother’s 38-month pregnancy, describing it as a miraculous event.
At a recent 25th-anniversary remembrance prayer for his mother, Alhaja Sanusi-Amosun, who passed away on October 27, 1999, Amosun recounted the numerous doubters who questioned his human existence due to his extended gestation period.
According to Amosun, his father was initially skeptical about his chances of survival due to the unexplained pregnancy duration. In fact, he had prepared for the worst-case scenario, ordering fuel to be delivered for a cremation procedure if he didn’t survive birth.
However, when Amosun was eventually born, many people were shocked to discover that he was a healthy, thriving baby. “I spent three and a half years in my mother’s womb,” he shared. “At birth, many people were unsure if I was a human being, but here I am today, alive and well.”
Amosun uses this extraordinary experience to emphasize the importance of honoring one’s parents through remembrance and prayer, as reflected in both religious teachings. He believes that beyond showing respect when they’re still around, the best way to pay tribute is through prayer, acknowledging their influence and seeking divine forgiveness for their souls.
He added that the 25th anniversary was a special occasion, not a celebration, but an opportunity to seek Allah’s forgiveness for his mother’s passing. Amosun’s elder brother, Alhaji Abidoye Amosun, confirmed the extraordinary story, revealing that their father had sent a traditional naming gift with specific names three days before the naming ceremony.
Reflecting on the significant role his brother plays within the family, Abidoye praised Amosun for being a source of support and guidance, saying, “He’s been a blessing, always there to help whenever we need him.”
Amosun, in turn, encouraged those present to remember their loved ones who have passed away, praying for their forgiveness and a peaceful afterlife. He hopes that his family will extend the same kindness to him when the time comes. “We pray Allah forgives them and grants them Al Jannah Firdausi,” he prayed.
The remembrance event was attended by Islamic leaders from Egbaland and beyond, as well as former aides who worked with Amosun during his tenure.
