APGA Condemns House of Reps Member’s Alleged Assault on E-Hailing Driver
A recent disturbing video has sparked outrage online, showing a member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, allegedly assaulting an e-hailing driver who had come to deliver a package to his residence. The driver, who was simply carrying out his duties, was met with unwarranted aggression by the lawmaker.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has strongly condemned Ikwechegh’s behavior, deeming it “unacceptable and harmful” and inconsistent with the party’s values and constitution. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, released a statement on Monday, stating that the party is founded on respect for human rights and upholds the dignity of all individuals, regardless of their background or social standing.
The statement emphasizes that APGA is committed to maintaining the highest standards of discipline, civility, and integrity in all public and private engagements. Opara emphasized that the party expects its members and elected officials to uphold these standards at all times.
The party has announced that it will set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the incident and, if necessary, impose sanctions on Ikwechegh in line with APGA’s constitution. The statement concludes by reiterating that the party’s core values emphasize the importance of treating others with respect and kindness, and that “in APGA, we are each other’s keeper, and it cannot be any other way.”
