Nigerian Gospel Singer, Tope Alabi, Speaks out Against Competition in the Music Industry
Nigerian gospel singer, Tope Alabi, recently expressed her concerns about the intense competition and envy that is prevalent among her peers in the music industry.
At a concert held in Ibadan, Oyo State, Alabi lamented over the fake love and rivalry that exist among gospel singers, both established and emerging artists. She emphasized the need for unity and support between these two groups, as well as a greater focus on their legacy and accountability before God.
In her words, “God will hold us accountable for these things. It is high time we recognize that we are working for the kingdom, not for ourselves or our fame. The established artists must set an example by showing empathy and compassion to newer artists. Otherwise, it can only create an environment where budding stars are pitted against each other.”
Alabi also touched on how this competition is often passed down from generation to generation. She noted that sometimes, even those who are already successful can engage in backstabbing and jealousy, which can lead to a vicious cycle. “Today, the up-and-coming artists are already competing against each other. They are even pretending to be friends with each other, but behind the scenes, they are sneaking jabs at each other. This is a recipe for disaster, and God will ultimately hold us accountable for it.”
