Nigerian Governor Accused of Racketeering with Edobest, Fraudulently Obtaining Funds

Obaseki Allegedly Using Edobest To Defraud Citizens, World Bank, Others – Afegbua

Edo APC Accuses Obaseki of Setting Trap for Incoming Administration with Mass Teacher Recruitment

Speaking to newsmen in Benin City, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Transition Committee, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of laying a trap for the incoming administration of Monday Okpebholo by recruiting 4,000 teachers.

Afegbua believes that the mass recruitment is a deliberate attempt to overwhelm the system for the new government, citing the governor’s lack of progress in improving the state’s education sector during his tenure.

According to Afegbua, Obaseki’s true intentions are transparent: to use the teachers to boost his own reputation, much like he did with the EdoBest project.

He emphasized that the sudden need for teachers is a clear indication that Obaseki has been neglecting the state’s education system, and that his actions are motivated by self-interest rather than a genuine desire to improve the sector.

Afegbua also drew parallels with Obaseki’s predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, who had recruited 2,500 teachers just before leaving office, only for Obaseki to discontinue the process in 2016, allegedly out of hatred for those who helped him assume power.

As such, Afegbua urged the newly recruited teachers to be wary of Obaseki’s intentions and not to be taken in by the governor’s empty promises.

The purchase of the mass recruitment, according to Afegbua, is a clear indication that the EdoBest project, touted as a initiative to boost the state’s education sector, was a ploy to enrich Obaseki and his allies at the expense of the state’s citizens and the World Bank.
