A Tragic Incident: Ogun State Government Suspends Teacher Following Student’s Death
Recently, a student at Obada Grammar School in Ogun State, Amzadjo Elijah, was suspended by the state government after a student, Monday Arijo, died due to serious health complications caused by an excessive caning and frog-jumping punishment.
According to a report by Naijawebinfo, Monday Arijo, a student, collapsed and was hospitalized for ten days before passing away. The incident occurred after he was given a strict punishment by the school principal, which included 162 frog jumps and 24 strokes of the cane.
The punishment was allegedly meted out by the principal because Arijo had made a comment about the school purchasing a dustbin using the students’ money.
The Ogun State government has strongly condemned the incident, describing the student’s death as a tragic incident that has left everyone in shock. In a statement issued on Sunday, the government announced that the teacher, Amzadjo Elijah, has been suspended pending further investigations.
The statement also revealed that the school principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, has been queried for her role in the incident, as she had allegedly allowed the use of corporal punishment, which is against the rules and regulations in the state. The principal has been given 24 hours to provide an explanation for her actions.
The government has also sent a condolence letter to the deceased student’s family, expressing its deepest sympathies and promising to take necessary measures to ensure justice for the family. The letter described Monday Arijo as an exceptional student who would be deeply missed by his peers, the school, and the state.
The government has also offered its prayers for the bereaved family, asking for the strength to cope with the irreparable loss and for the soul of the departed to rest in peace.
