**Tragic Incident: Student Drowns After Teacher-Approved Punishment**
A somber story has unfolded at Obafemi Grammar School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State, where a student, Ariyo Monday, lost his life under unsettling circumstances. According to eyewitnesses, the 17-year-old student was subjected to a harrowing ordeal that ultimately proved fatal.
It all began when a teacher allegedly instructed students to handle a trash can with care, only for Ariyo to jokingly comment that the container was purchased with student funds, sparking the teacher’s anger. In retaliation, the teacher sought the principal’s approval for a severe punishment, which involved 162 frog jumps and 24 strokes of the cane.
As revealed by activist JustAdetoun, Ariyo was subsequently administered the gruesome punishment, followed by his collapse. Unfortunately, the student’s condition continued to deteriorate, resulting in his eventual hospitalization at Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.
The incident has left authorities scrambling to unravel the circumstances surrounding Ariyo’s tragic demise. According to reports, the student passed away on Friday, with an autopsy now pending. The cause of death remains unknown, pending further investigation.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, revealing that the punishment consisted of 24 strokes of the cane and 162 frog jumps. “The incident occurred on October 15, 2024. The deceased was asked to perform 162 frog jumps and received 24 strokes of the cane. He was rushed to FMC Idi-Aba for medical attention, and he passed away today [Friday],” she explained.
