Tragedy Strikes: Naval Officer Accidentally Kills Colleague in Zamfara State

A deadly confrontation between two naval officers has left one dead and another in custody in Dansadau, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara state. The incident occurred on Friday morning at approximately 6 a.m.

According to a source, the two personnel, who were serving at Team 3, formerly known as Operation Hadarin Daji, now rebranded as Operation Sheto Yanma, engaged in a heated argument, which escalated when Leading Seaman (LS) Akila opened fire and killed his colleague.

The source revealed that the suspect, LS Akila, is still in custody, while his colleague, LS Solomon, who was the victim, remains in the military.

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the incident through Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, who stated that on October 24, at approximately 3:12 a.m., LS Akila A, deployed at FOB Dansadua for Operation Fansan Yamma, opened fire sporadically, killing a fellow military colleague in the process.

Maj. Gen. Buba emphasized that the suspect was arrested, disarmed, and detained, and an investigation has since been launched. He added that the case will be escalated to a standing court-martial to address the incident, which is considered a misdemeanor among troops.

The Navy is also handling the administrative procedure of notifying the family of the deceased, and the name of the victim will be released in due course. The Navy has urged the media to exercise caution in reporting the incident to avoid further distressing the family of the deceased.
