Kano State Governor Commends Peaceful Conduct of Local Government Elections

On Saturday, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf commended the peaceful and successful conduct of local government elections across the state’s 44 local government areas. The elections, which took place in 484 wards, marked a historic milestone, with the governor declaring them the freest in the state’s history.

In a press conference after casting his vote in Gwale local government area, Governor Yusuf thanked other state electoral commission chairmen who monitored the elections, praising their efforts to ensure a smooth process.

“We guaranteed a free and fair election, and I’m pleased to say that the outcome reflects the will of the people,” the governor stated. He assured that the newly elected officials would serve the people’s best interests, and his administration would ensure good governance.

The governor also commended the chairman and staff of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for their role in ensuring the success of the elections. “It’s crucial that we maintain a level playing field during elections, and I urge the judiciary to remain impartial in its actions,” he said.

The governor acknowledged that the state’s history as the only one to govern under the NNPP platform might pose challenges, but he emphasized that the people of Kano are peaceful and will not be easily swayed. He cited the recent events in Rivers State as a lesson, explaining that he took proactive measures to prevent similar scenarios in Kano.

Finally, Governor Yusuf urged the opposition to accept defeat, citing his party’s strong voter support. “I appeal to the opposition to accept defeat graciously, as we have the support of the majority of voters,” he concluded.
