“Lagos’ Poor Air Quality: Agege Tops the Stakes”

Full List: Agege Leads Lagos In Hazardous Air Quality Rankings – LASEPA Report

Agege Crowned Lagos’ Most Polluted Area by LASEPA

Lagosians, beware: if you live in Agege, you’re breathing in some of the worst air in the state. According to the latest Air Quality Index released by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Agege is the hotspot of air pollution, with a staggering 103% score. This is not just unhealthy – it’s dangerous.

But Agege isn’t the only area of concern. Surulere, which follows closely behind, has a 76.1% rating, designated as “very unhealthy.” Mushin and LAMATA Kosefe also made the cut, scoring 47.3% and 46%, respectively, both classified as “unhealthy.”

Other areas, like the Lagos Port in Apapa (36.4%), Badagry (23.8%), and Moloney Street (20.7%), all fell into the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category.

On the other end of the spectrum, Egbeda (15.7%) and NIMET Oshodi (14.1%) emerged with “moderate” air quality ratings. General Hospital Ikeja and LSDPC Estate on Lagos Island also had moderate pollution levels, scoring 12.6% and 12.1%, respectively.

In a glimmer of hope, Lekki delivered the state’s best score, with a 10.1% rating, landing in the “good” category. LASEPA’s own station, not surprisingly, came in second, with a 7.6% score.

Despite the less-than-ideal air quality in many areas, LASEPA assures residents that it’s hard at work to improve the state’s environmental health.
