Nigerian comedian and Nollywood actor Debo Adebayo, better known as Mr. Macaroni, has expressed frustration and disappointment with the lack of respect some Nigerian politicians have for the people they serve.
A recent incident that has sparked outrage online involving a member of the House of Representatives from Abia State, Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, has prompted Mr. Macaroni to share his thoughts on the matter.
Ikwechegh threatened to make a Bolt driver disappear, beat him up, and lock him in his generator house, showcasing a flagrant disregard for human rights and the rule of law.
In a social media post, Mr. Macaroni emphasized that the lack of accountability among politicians is a significant contributing factor to their lack of respect for the people. He cited a recent incident involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who questioned the sanity of some Nigerians while addressing them.
The Minister’s comments, which implied that those being addressed were inferior, are a prime example of the arrogance that Mr. Macaroni believes has no place in public office. He sarcastically asked why the Minister, as a civil servant, would imply that those who pay his salary are inferior to him.
Mr. Macaroni also pointed out that politicians are not above the people and should remember that their position is a result of the people’s votes. He urged Nigerians to remind their leaders that they are serving the people, not the other way around.
