A pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has refuted claims that led to his temporary suspension, asserting that he never engaged in homosexual acts with male teenagers.
The church announced the suspension on October 28, 2024, in a memo signed by National Overseer Sunday Akande, citing biblical principles and the church’s stance against homosexuality.
AdeBello, a suspended pastor, took to social media to deny the allegations, stating that his initial silence had been misinterpreted as guilt, prompting him to clarify the situation.
He explained that a viral WhatsApp screenshot being used against him was taken out of context, revealing that the conversation pertained to discussions on male reproductive health and self-esteem in a youth group chat.
AdeBello stated, “I was advised not to respond initially, as I was not the only individual named, and all of us may have been mentioned to drive engagement on the blog. However, as these allegations have escalated to criminal claims, I am compelled to respond, as my prolonged silence has been misconstrued as an admission of guilt.”
He emphasized, “I have never demanded sex from any male as payment or gratification in order to give them assistance, platforms, or positions. God is the only King Maker, the only One who can raise and erase kings, give positions, and platforms.” He also denied having any sexual relationships with the teens mentioned in the screenshot, stating, “I have never had sex with (**asterisk**) or proposed sex to him for any reason.”
AdeBello explained that the conversation in the screenshot was part of a group discussion on male reproductive health and self-esteem, covering topics like proper hygiene, underwear choices, and self-esteem, aiming to educate the teens on their unique creation by God.
He expressed disappointment that the screenshot had been misused, claiming, “It is disheartening to see that the screenshot message has now been mischievously quoted out of context to portray me as someone who has sex with male teenagers.”
