Singer Skales Disputes Claims He Was Propelled to Stardom by Burna Boy’s Influence

Skales Fires Back As Critics Claims that Burna Boy Helped His Career

Nigerian music sensation Skales has responded to a social media user who claimed that Burna Boy’s involvement helped revive his career.

The debate began when a critic replied to one of Skales’ posts, describing his career as “dead” and suggesting that Burna Boy was responsible for its revival. The critic pointed out the 2017 remix of Skales’ hit song “Temper,” which featured Burna Boy and earned a nomination for Best Collaboration at the 2018 Headies.

However, Skales shot back at the claim, denying that Burna Boy played a significant role in his success. Skales emphasized that the partnership between the two artists was mutually beneficial, with both artists benefiting from the collaboration. He stressed that neither Burna Boy nor any other artist had helped him achieve his goals, but rather, it was his own fans and God’s favor that he owed his success to.

“This is the more reason why everyone hates you, because I need to defend myself every time,” said Skales. “I love Burna, but don’t you ever say he helped me. No one helped me! Only my fans and God’s grace. We do collabos where both parties benefit. If the thing doesn’t benefit us, we won’t perform on our separate sets.”

Skales also addressed a fan’s comment about Wizkid’s involvement in his career, refuting the claim and highlighting the contributions of other artists in his journey.

Born Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, Skales began writing rap songs in 2000. Throughout his career, he has worked with prominent artists such as Akon, Banky W, and Falz. In 2023, Skales shared the challenges he faced after leaving Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), which is owned by Banky W.

The drama unfolded on social media as fans eagerly responded to the back-and-forth between Skales and his critics.
