Gasperini Hopes to Retain Ademola Lookman Amid Transfer Rumors
Atalanta’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, is optimistic that the club can retain their star forward, Ademola Lookman, despite reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The 27-year-old winger has been in top form, earning a nomination for the 2024 Ballon d’Or and finishing 14th in the final ranking.
Gasperini has been keeping a close eye on Lookman’s whereabouts, admitting that the temptation of a move to PSG was strong, especially during the summer transfer window. However, Lookman eventually returned to the Atalanta squad, and the manager is grateful for his commitment.
“Lookman was tempted by PSG, no doubt. But, hopefully, we can avoid a repeat of that situation in January,” Gasperini emphasized. His priority is to have Lookman fully engaged and contributing to the team’s goals. The manager also acknowledged the impact of Lookman’s teammates, citing the support from De Roon, Ederson, and Djimsiti as crucial to his success.
“Lookman wouldn’t be where he is without the backing of his teammates,” Gasperini emphasized. “It’s unlikely he would have achieved the same level of success if he were playing for a different team.” With Lookman viewed as a valuable asset, Gasperini hopes to keep him at Atalanta and continue to reap the benefits of his talent.
