Rebuilding the PDP: Former National Publicity Secretary Decries Excessive Focus on Atiku and Wike
Public figures often say that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is too big to be defined by the actions and opinions of a few individuals. Kola Ologbondiyan, a former national publicity secretary of the party, believes that this principle is being tested today. In a recent interview on ARISE TV, he expressed his disheartening observations about the ongoing crisis within the party.
According to Ologbondiyan, the party’s reputation is suffering because of the relentless focus on Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike, two key leaders. He lamented that the national dialogue is only revolving around these two individuals, and that this is doing a disservice to the larger party.
Instead of constantly highlighting the rivalry between Atiku and Wike, the former spokesperson suggests that focus should be placed on rebuilding the party and making it a viable opposition force. He emphasized that there are many capable individuals within the party who can help restore peace and stability, and that these leaders should be given more attention.
Ologbondiyan urged that it is wrong to assume that the party’s fate is tied to the actions of a single individual or duo. He believes that the true strength of the PDP lies in its ability to unify other opposition parties and become a powerful force for change. He implored that rather than pinning all hope on a single figure, efforts should be channeled towards constructing a strong, inclusive, and broad-based opposition.
