Cops Nab Suspects Linked to Kidnapping of Catholic Priest in Edo State
In a bid to crack the case of the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. Thomas Ayode, the Edo State command of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in the crime.
On Wednesday, State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, paraded seven suspects taken into custody for committing a range of offenses, including armed robbery, kidnapping, cult activities, and car theft, among others.
Ozigi explained that the police have adjusted their security strategy in response to the unfortunate incident, working in tandem with the community, and deploying a unit of Police Mobile Force to the area to ensure public safety.
According to Ozigi, “We have taken two individuals into custody in connection with the kidnapping of the Reverend Father.”
The authorities are currently working tirelessly to rescue the cleric, apprehend additional suspects, and ensure they face justice.
All individuals arrested will be prosecuted in court once the investigation is complete.
Rev. Fr. Ayode, who serves as the Rector of the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School in Ivanokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, was abducted last Sunday by armed individuals believed to be kidnappers.
The kidnappers have contacted the Diocese of Auchi, demanding a ransom of ₦200 million.
