Despite losing an appeal, Paris Saint-Germain remains resolute in their decision to withhold the substantial €55 million owed to Kylian Mbappé. The French league’s appeals commission ruled that the club is obligated to meet this payment, but PSG is determined to take the dispute to a higher authority.
According to a club spokesperson, PSG will escalate the matter to the courts while simultaneously seeking an amicable resolution with the player. “Now that the appeals committee has confirmed the position of the legal committee, we have opted to bring the case before the appropriate courts while simultaneously seeking an amicable resolution with the player,” the spokesperson explained.
PSG claims that they do not owe Mbappé the €55 million, citing his voluntary waiver of the payment when he rejoined the team’s first squad last season. However, with Mbappé now playing for Real Madrid, he is pursuing the full amount and has rejected mediation efforts from the club.
PSG emphasized their expectations of Mbappé, stating, “The player has made clear and repeated commitments, both public and private, that the club expects him to honour and respect. This expectation is underscored by the unprecedented benefits he has enjoyed during his seven-year tenure in Paris.”
While the club seeks an amicable settlement, they are preparing for a potential legal confrontation. The spokesperson warned, “If the player, regrettably, chooses to further pursue this disagreement, we will have no choice but to escalate the matter to the competent courts. We seek recognition of the damages we have incurred and continue to face due to the puzzling stance taken by our former player.
