A prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, has made a bold move, leaving the party and joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement was made official by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on the floor of the House during plenary on Wednesday.
A letter was read aloud, indicating that Gumi’s decision was driven by the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, which has hindered his ability to effectively represent his constituents.

According to the letter, Gumi noted that the PDP has been plagued by internal issues, including the existence of multiple chairmen in his constituency, making it challenging for him to provide effective representation and deliver the dividends of democracy to his constituents.
After reading the letter, Speaker Abbas extended a warm welcome to Gumi, asking him to stand up and join the APC. However, not everyone was pleased with the development. The Minority Leader of the House, Kingsley Chinda, promptly raised a point of order, suggesting that the Speaker should declare the vacant seat of Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Mahmud Gummi, as the member had defected from the PDP to the APC and there were no ongoing conflicts within the PDP. Unfortunately, the Minority Leader’s point of order was deemed out of order.
