A Disturbing Incident in Kano: Man Remanded for Assaulting Imam
A disturbing incident has unfolded in Kano State, where a man, Nasiru Mukhtar, has been remanded by a Shariah Court for allegedly assaulting Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman during morning prayers at a mosque in the Tudunwada area.
According to eyewitnesses, Mukhtar stormed the mosque at approximately 5 am on October 22, 2024, and physically assaulted the Imam, holding him by the neck, slapping him multiple times, and ripping his clothes off before stealing his microphone.
The Imamat reported the incident to the police, leading to Mukhtar’s arrest, and his subsequent arraignment in court.
In court, Mukhtar’s defense attorney requested bail, citing the need for further investigation. However, the presiding judge, Malam Isah Rabi’U Gaya, ordered a psychiatric evaluation to assess the accused’s mental state.
The court has adjourned the case until November 22, 2024, with Mukhtar remaining in custody.
