Vinicius Jr Should Be 2024 Ballon d’Or Favorite Not Rodri

Vinicius Jr, Not Rodri Deserves 2024 Ballon d’Or Award – Benzema

Former Madrid Star Weighs in on 2024 Ballon d’Or Winner

Naijawebinfo previously reported that Manchester City’s Rodri was crowned the winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or, followed by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior in second place.

The award, presented in Paris, France, has sparked mixed reactions from football fans worldwide.

Following the ceremony, Real Madrid players, including Vinicius, boycotted the event. This decision was likely driven by their disappointment over the outcome.

Karim Benzema, a former Real Madrid star, commented on the situation, stating that he spoke with Vinicius and found the Brazilian player to be disappointed but understanding of the outcome.

Benzema also expressed his personal opinion, suggesting that Vinicius was more deserving of the award. He mentioned that Rodri hadn’t made a strong impression on him, failing to leave a lasting impact during his own playing days.

“I spoke to Vini, and he’s sad… it’s normal. He deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. I’ve nothing against Rodri, he’s a good player, but Rodri doesn’t do anything that makes you say ‘wow!’

Meanwhile, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola showed understanding for Real Madrid’s decision to skip the ceremony, saying, “It’s up to them. If they choose to congratulate us, that’s appreciated. If not, that’s okay too. At Manchester City, we respect other clubs’ decisions.”

Former Argentina striker Sergio Aguero added his perspective, describing Real Madrid’s reaction as somewhat entitled, specifically after learning Vinicius wouldn’t win the award. He emphasized that Rodri’s achievement was well-deserved and that football belongs to everyone, not just Real Madrid.

Rodri, a Spanish midfielder, topped the rankings with the votes of 100 journalists and coaches across the globe, surpassing Real Madrid players Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Carvajal.

Aware of the outcome, Real Madrid decided not to attend, resulting in the absence of club representatives at the ceremony. The Spanish giant also forwent the Men’s Club of the Year and Gerd Muller trophies.
