Kano APC Chairman Warns Governor Against Disregarding Court Ruling on Local Government Elections
As the latest development in the ongoing controversy surrounding the proposed local government elections in Kano State, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Abdullahi Abbas, has cautioned Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf against disregarding a court ruling that invalidated the election process. Abbas emphasized that ignoring the court’s directive would be a recipe for chaos and lawlessness in the state.
The rift between the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been ongoing, with the NNPP claiming that some of its members were appointed as executive officers of the electoral commission. In a bid to circumvent this issue, Governor Yusuf had reaffirmed his commitment to conducting the local government elections, scheduled for October 26, 2024.
Abbas, however, has urged Governor Yusuf to respect the court’s decision and desist from any action that might lead to a breakdown in law and order in the state. The APC Chairman stressed that the governor’s actions should be guided by the rule of law, rather than personal ambitions or political inclinations.
“In a statement,” Abbas cautioned, “the governor should simply respect the laws. As law-abiding citizens interested in the growth of our dear state of Kano, the governor should desist from any act that could throw the state into chaos. Inciting people to take the laws into their hands is not the hallmark of good leadership.”
With the gubernatorial election in full swing, the stakes are high, and the situation in Kano State remains uncertain. As the parties involved continue to engage in a high-stakes game of political poker, only time will tell what the outcome will be.
