New Contactless Passport Renewal System Launched by Nigeria Immigration Service
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is introducing a new, contactless passport renewal system, starting in Canada on November 1, 2024.
This innovative digital process aims to simplify passport services for Nigerians, eliminating the need to visit NIS offices and increasing efficiency.
The system will initially be available in Canada, followed by the United Kingdom, United States, and Italy on November 15, with global access, including Nigeria, by December 1, 2024.
NIS shared details about the new system through a video posted on their social media account on October 30, 2024, explaining how it works.
A representative explained, “The NIS has launched a new, contactless passport renewal process, designed to serve the public more efficiently and meet global standards. With this new system, individuals can now apply for international passport renewal from the comfort of their own homes, without the need to visit any NIS office.”
To access this service, Nigerians must download the NIS mobile app from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or Windows Store, or visit the online portal at www.passport.immigration.gov.ng.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Contactless Passport Renewal
1. **Get Set Up**: Download the NIS app or access the online portal from November 1, 2024, to start the application process.
2. **Create a Profile**: Register with a valid email address and begin your application.
3. **Eligibility Check**: Quickly determine your eligibility for passport renewal.
4. **Enter Identity Information**: Input your National Identification Number (NIN) and current passport number.
