Deadly Bandit Attack Rocks Benue Community, More Than 15 Residents Killed

A chilling massacre has been reported in Anyiin community, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, following a brutal attack by bandits on Wednesday evening. The attack left more than 15 residents dead and many others seriously injured.

The community leader, Joseph Anawah, confirmed the devastating incident to our correspondent, recounting the events as follows: “More than 20 heavily armed attackers descended upon our community, unleashing terror for three consecutive hours, resulting in the tragic loss of life and crippling injuries to several others. Many more are still unaccounted for.

The victims include notable individuals, such as retired primary school supervisor Orihundu Ati, Zaki Mbatern, the son of the Kindred Head of Mbawuave, and others. Among them is the son of the late Chief of Staff, Tordoo Suswam, as well as the son of Uyange Chembe, whose brother served as the late District Head of Ukemberagya.

Anawah, who served as a former aide to the former Governor of Benue State, lamented the attack, noting it marks the second incident in October. He urged the state government to collaborate with the Federal Government to strengthen security in the region.

A team of security personnel, including military units, has been deployed to the area in response to the violence. As this report was being filed, however, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, had not issued a statement on the incident.

A special adviser to the state governor on security and external affairs, Alex Igbaya, also confirmed the attack, stating that security measures were being taken to contain the situation.
