Everton Boss Regrets Alex Iwobi’s Departure, Wants Him to Have Stayed Longer
As Alex Iwobi prepares to face his former club with Fulham, Everton manager Sean Dyche has revealed his disappointment in the midfielder’s departure from Goodison Park, saying it was never part of his plan for Iwobi to leave the team.
In 2019, Iwobi joined the Toffees from Arsenal for an estimated £28 million, starting a four-year journey that saw him develop into a crucial player. Initially, he faced challenges in making an impact, but over time, he earned the admiration of teammates and fans alike with his adaptability and work ethic.
By his final season with Everton, Iwobi’s contributions had been recognized with the coveted Players’ Player of the Season award, a testament to his tireless work on the pitch. Despite his achievements, Iwobi left to join Fulham last summer, signaling the start of a new chapter in his career.
Iwobi is set to return to Merseyside this evening, October 26, with Fulham, generating excitement among fans and players alike. Looking back on his time at Everton, Dyche praised Iwobi, saying, “He was a very good deal for the club. I thought he was an excellent servant during my time here, and I truly enjoyed having him around the place.”
Dyche added, “He was a joy to work with and, in my opinion, a very good player. Although I didn’t want to lose him, circumstances demanded the decision. Ultimately, it was a good fee for a good player.”
