Afrobeats Superstar Davido Makes History on TikTok
In a major milestone, Davido, the king of Afrobeats, broke the record for the most-watched live stream in Africa, reaching new heights on TikTok.
The star’s electrifying livestream, co-hosted by popular content creators Peller, Jarvis, and Jo Blaq on October 30, drew in an unprecedented 389,800 viewers, with a whopping 164,000 watching simultaneously.
This remarkable feat shattered Peller’s previous record, set during a session with singer Tiwa Savage, showcasing the immense popularity of Davido’s live streams.
Moreover, Davido generated an impressive 377 ‘lion’ gifts on TikTok, valued at $400 each, during the livestream. Notably, the singer announced that he would be donating all earnings from these gifts to his co-hosts, Peller, Jarvis, and Jo Blaq.
A Journey of Success: I Am Living Proof, Says Davido
Davido recently shared his inspiring story of success in the music industry, highlighting the choices he made after completing school.
In a candid conversation at the 2024 LAS annual summit, Davido attributed his success to the opportunities he grabbed after graduating from Babcock University.
He explained that he took a break from school to pursue his music career, which ultimately led to his success.
“I’m living proof of someone who became successful after school,” Davido emphasized, recalling his own experience. “Let me share my story. I went into the entertainment world after completing school, but I have friends, siblings, and a father with a company and a school that students graduate from.”
He stressed that his family allowed him to make his own choices and encouraged him, unlike his siblings who followed more traditional routes. “I did school for about five years because I had to take a break for my music. People go to school for four, five, or six years, and some people study law and then enter the workforce.”
Davido noted that success comes at different times for different people, citing examples of friends and siblings who achieved quick success, while others worked their way up over time. “I’ve seen how their lives unfolded after school. For some, success came quickly, and for others, they worked for other people and climbed the career ladder.”
