Pep Guardiola Emphasizes Respect for Real Madrid’s Decision to Skip Ballon d’Or Ceremony
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shown understanding towards Real Madrid’s decision to skip the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony. The award, which took place on October 28, saw Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City claim the top spot, surpassing Real Madrid players Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Carvajal.
Prior to the event, a panel of 100 international journalists and coaches cast their votes, and Rodri’s victory was well-known. Real Madrid subsequently decided not to attend the ceremony, resulting in no representatives being present to accept the Men’s Club of the Year award and the Gerd Muller trophy for Kylian Mbappe.
Guardiola expressed his thoughts on the situation, stating, “It’s up to them. If they choose to congratulate us, that’s appreciated. If not, that’s okay too. At Manchester City, we respect other clubs’ decisions.”
Meanwhile, former Argentine striker Sergio Aguero shared his take on Real Madrid’s reaction to Rodri’s victory. He perceived the club’s response as somewhat entitled, especially considering they cancelled their attendance upon learning Vinicius would not win the award.
Aguero emphasized Rodri’s well-deserved achievement, saying, “Rodri is the best player in the world. Football belongs to everyone, not just Real Madrid; they should recognize that.”
