A horrific building collapse in Jegede Olorunsogo, within the Ona Ara local government area of Ibadan, has claimed the lives of at least 10 people, with 7 others rescued alive. The devastating incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, with the Oyo State Fire Services receiving distress calls from the residents at around 2 am.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that the agency is still involved in the rescue operation. He expressed his gratitude for the team’s efforts so far.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos behind. The blaze was triggered by a petrol tanker that overturned in front of a commercial bank, causing a massive explosion and subsequent fire.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the tanker driver fell asleep at the wheel, losing control and causing the accident. The subsequent fire spread rapidly, shattering windows, damaging roofs, and cracking walls of nearby buildings. Residents in the affected area are still reeling from the shock, with several individuals receiving treatment for their injuries.
An eyewitness, Wasiu, pointed to the tanker driver’s reckless driving as the primary cause of the incident. The exact extent of the damage is still being assessed, but it is clear that the consequences of this tragic event will be felt for a long time to come.
