Coach Jose Peseiro, the former head coach of the Nigerian national team, is thrilled to have been recognized for his outstanding contribution to football, as he has been nominated for the 2024 International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) Men’s World Best National Team Coach award. Peseiro is one of 20 renowned coaches from around the world who have been honored for their dedication to national football.

Peseiro’s remarkable tenure with the Super Eagles culminated in a deserving second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, held in Cote d’Ivoire from January to February 2024. His commitment to developing the team, evident throughout the tournament, earned him widespread respect within the football community.

Following the expiration of his contract in February, Peseiro decided to step away from coaching. In the time since, he has remained out of the coaching scene. The IFFHS nomination has presented him with an opportunity to express his gratitude to the players, the Nigeria Football Federation, and all those who contributed to his journey.

“I am truly humbled to receive this recognition from IFFHS,” Peseiro said in response to the announcement. “It is a testament to the tireless effort and dedication my coaching staff and I have consistently demonstrated in serving the Nigerian national team.”

Peseiro also acknowledged the significance of the achievements during his tenure. “These records will be etched in history, as will the unforgettable experience of our journey to the AFCON final,” he noted.
