A Nigerian Singer, Portable, Escapes Assassination Attempt in Ota, Ogun State

Nigerian music star, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, had a harrowing encounter when someone attempted to assassinate him in Ota, Ogun State, on Wednesday. In a viral video, Portable, visibly shaken, exclaimed, “They want to kill me!” as the incident unfolded.

The footage shows a dramatic moment when a half-naked man, allegedly the attacker, is taken into custody, holding a gun while bystanders frantically ask, “Who pulled the trigger?” as the atmosphere becomes increasingly tense.

The Ogun State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident, and the motivation behind the attack remains unclear. Portable, known for his outspoken and controversial nature, expressed relief over the incident.

Recently, Portable faced backlash from a social media critic, VeryDarkMan, who shared a video of him allegedly assaulting a man at Felabration, an event celebrating the life of Fela Kuti, a legendary Nigerian musician. VeryDarkMan accused Portable of being aggressive and warned him to stop assaulting people.

Portable responded to this criticism with a lively video statement on his Instagram page, saying, “Online madness is different from real-life madness. I can beat you up, I can reform you. I can cripple you. I am a one-man army. If I hold you… You are using Abuja to threaten me. Go and ask about me in Maraba Nyanya, Babangida Market, or inquire about Lagos boy.”

Portable also recounted the events leading up to the altercation, explaining that the person he assaulted was someone who had collected money from him for several shows but failed to pay him back. “My fans, you should have known the person I was beating. We had a one-on-one confrontation, man to man. Someone who had taken money from me for five straight shows and disappeared with it for six months. That man, is he my manager?” he asked.
