Farewell to a Legend: Legendary Nigerian Actor, Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, is Laid to Rest

The curtain has closed on a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s film history as beloved actor, Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, popularly known as Charles Olumo, or Baba Agbako, was laid to rest on Thursday in his hometown of Abeokuta, Ogun State. The 101-year-old thespian left an indelible mark on the Yoruba film industry during his illustrious four-decade-long career.

A grand ceremony was held at his residence, where a select group of close family, friends, and prominent Nollywood actors, including Idowu Philips, also known as Iya Rainbow, and Foluke Daramola, paid their respects to the departed actor.

The news of Baba Agbako’s passing was confirmed by Bolaji Amusan, President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), who shared the news on Instagram: “May your soul rest in peace, Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu Agbako. You will be deeply missed.”

Baba Agbako began his acting journey in 1953 and is remembered for his powerful stage presence, captivating performances in films like Taxi Driver, Jagun, Aiye, and Jayesinmi. His remarkable career spanned four decades, cementing his position as a driving force in Nigerian cinema.

Prior to his acting career, he worked as a mechanic and amateur boxer, he continued to visit film locations in his later years, sharing his wisdom and inspiring the younger generation.

Born on February 19, 1923, in Abeokuta, Baba Agbako leaves behind a rich legacy within Yoruba cinema, cherished by both fans and colleagues alike.
