Nigerian Leader Urged to Partner with Osinbajo and Fayemi, Not Blindly Follow Tinubu’s Lead

We Can’t Back Tinubu Blindly Like His Supporters; He Needs Osinbajo, Fayemi – Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed Criticizes President Bola Tinubu’s Failure to Deliver

As the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed has spoken out about his disappointment with President Bola Tinibu’s performance in office. In an interview with Daily Trust, he expressed his frustration with the current administration and its policies.

Bauchi Governor Mohammed acknowledged that he had high hopes for the former Lagos State governor, based on his success in Lagos during his tenure from 1999 to 2007, but these expectations have not been met. He attributed this to a lack of a strong team, citing the absence of key individuals like former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Minister Kayode Fayemi, who were part of Tinubu’s team during his time in Lagos.

Frustrated with the Tinibu administration’s policies, Mohammed said that he and other governors have tried to offer guidance, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. He emphasized that the President needs to bring back experienced and knowledgeable advisors, rather than just those who will offer blind praise.

“I think I’ve been too lenient with my words,” he said. “As an opposition leader, I can’t support the government blindly. I’ve shown restraint, as a statesman, and not addressed issues that could create a national crisis. But there are some serious problems in his administration – in the oil and gas sector, the lack of real action on security, the surface-level economic policies, and their approach to governance.”

“The government’s economic policies, particularly around fuel and the welfare of the people, are not working. Our monetary policies are failing. President Tinubu needs to bring in capable people to work with him, not me specifically, but experts from across the country. Nigerians are suffering from hunger and anger, and good governance means managing people’s aspirations and minimizing discomfort.”

“If the removal of fuel subsidy was supposed to help, we’re not seeing that. What we need are policies that actually put food on the table. Even if we pay the minimum wage, it’s not enough to bring relief. That’s why I called for a review. And maybe he’s trying to review things, but the continued rise in fuel prices suggests otherwise. How can workers afford to commute? How can people buy basic goods like a bag of maize?”

“President Tinubu needs to show empathy and apply the same skills he used in Lagos on a national level. He should bring back knowledgeable people, not just those who give blind praise. That’s what I’m advocating for.”
