Super Falcons Soar to 4-1 Victory Against Algeria in Friendly Match
The Nigerian women’s national team, the Super Falcons, dominated Algeria 4-1 in a thrilling friendly match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, fuelled by a stunning performance from Folashade Ijamilusi, who netted three goals.
Joint coach Farid Benstiti’s guidance was instrumental in inspiring a more assured and composed display from the Super Falcons compared to their previous outing at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne, which ended with a 2-0 victory for Nigeria.
Ijamilusi, a star player for the team, made a telling impact early on, scoring the first goal after just 12 minutes from a well-executed corner kick. She capitalised on a rebound from Blessing Ilivieda’s shot, which hit the crossbar, to net her second goal just nine minutes later.
Despite some tense moments, including a missed penalty from Algeria’s Lina Boussaha in the 39th minute, the Green Ladies remained resilient and almost scored a powerful strike from Laura Muller, which Nigerian goalkeeper Rachael Unachukwu expertly saved.
Algeria managed to find the back of the net with a well-taken goal from Ouassila Alouache in the 43rd minute, but the Super Falcons responded with intense pressure in the second half, culminating in a strong header from Gift Monday just before halftime.
Ijamilusi completed her hat-trick with a late goal, underscoring her significant contribution to her team’s success and demonstrating their ability to dominate their opponents.
