Ogun State Labour Party Accuses APC of Plans to Rig Local Government Elections
The Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State has raised concerns that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to rig the upcoming local government elections in the state. According to the LP, the APC is planning to manipulate the electoral process to undermine the democratic choice of the citizens.
Local government elections in Ogun State are scheduled to take place on November 16, and the LP is urging the State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to ensure that the electorate’s votes are accurately counted during the election.
Speaking during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Abeokuta, the state chairman of the LP, Lookman Jagun, expressed concerns about the APC’s ability to achieve a 100% victory in the local government elections. Jagun believes that the APC’s poor track record is reflected in its scorecard, which he claims is an “F9” for the state.
He pointed to the rising cost of living, hunger, and poverty as evidence of the APC’s failure to deliver on its promises. “Garri, which used to be the common man’s food, is no longer affordable. Some families can’t even eat twice a day. Parents now go a whole day without eating so that their children can eat at least once a day,” Jagun said.
The party’s state chairman also highlighted the fact that many of its chairmanship candidates had opted out of the race due to concerns over the APC’s commitment to a fair electoral process. He urged OGSIEC Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, to ensure that the people’s voices are heard in the upcoming local government elections.
The LP is standing by its promise to introduce a new approach to governance at the local level, focusing on infrastructure development, agricultural growth, primary healthcare, and transparency in governance. The party is calling on citizens to reject poverty, hunger, and the consequences of the APC’s mismanagement by voting for the LP in the local government elections.
In response, the APC state publicity secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, dismissed the LP’s claims as “laughable and unfounded.” He dared the LP to mention their achievements and challenged the party to back up its claims.
The Ogun State Labour Party’s accusations come as the state prepares for its local government elections next month. The party is determined to make its mark and bring change to the people of Ogun State.
