Cross River LG Election: Gov Otu Declares Two-day Public Holidays Ahead Of Saturday Poll

Public Holidays Declare for Local Government Elections in Cross River State

The government of Cross River State, led by Governor Bassey Otu, has announced two public holidays this week to promote widespread participation in the upcoming local government elections.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, the holidays were declared to enable eligible voters to travel to various parts of the state and participate in the electoral process without any hindrances.

According to the statement, the public holidays, which take place on Thursday and Friday, provide the perfect opportunity for residents to travel to their desired destinations and prepare for the Saturday, November 2, elections.

Gill emphasized the importance of civic participation, encouraging all eligible voters to seize this chance to exercise their right to vote and shape the future of their local governments.

“By declaring these public holidays, we recognize the need for citizens to exercise their right to vote without any obstacles,” Gill said. “We urge residents to actively engage in the electoral process and contribute to the governance of their local councils.”

Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has confirmed its participation in the upcoming November 16 governorship election, dispelling rumors of a potential merger with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

ZLP’s State Chairman, Cornelius Akintoye, clarified the party’s stance during a telephone conversation with Punch, stating that while some individual members may have chosen to join the PDP, this decision does not reflect the party’s overall position.

According to Akintoye, the ZLP remains committed to its independent campaign and strategy for the election, with 16 parties contesting the governorship race.
