Woman Seeks Divorce from Husband, Citing Lack of Love and Care

A 30-year-old housewife, Kafilat AbdulLateef, has filed a divorce petition at the Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, against her husband, Bukoye Abdullateef. The wife, a resident of Abisam Area, Offa Local Government, claims that she is no longer interested in the one-year-old marriage due to her husband’s lack of love, care, and affection. She is seeking a divorce, custody of their only child, and a monthly support fee of N50,000.

The husband, however, has expressed his commitment to the marriage and is not willing to grant her a divorce.

The presiding judge, Toyin Aluko, expressed concern over the increasing number of young couples seeking divorce. She urged the couple to tolerate each other and make an effort to live together peacefully. The court has adjourned the case to January 14 for a report on settlement.

Ex-Police Officers in Court Over Student’s Murder

In other news, the Kwara State Police Command has charged three dismissed officers to court in connection with the murder of a student at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. Quorum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a 21-year-old National Diploma 2 student of Electrical/Electronics, was allegedly killed by the officers during a fuel hike protest by students in Ilorin.

The officers, Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Samuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. The court case was filed on October 16, 2024, by the Police, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the Police report, the three officers were dismissed after a thorough investigation and internal disciplinary trial, which found them guilty of their involvement in the student’s death. The officers were remanded in prison custody pending further court proceedings.

Egbetokun emphasized the importance of upholding justice, professionalism, and accountability within the Police Force, stating that under his leadership, he is committed to ensuring that officers conduct themselves with integrity and that any breach of ethical standards will be met with severe consequences.
