Abia Warriors’ coach seeks more national team call-ups for talented stars

John Obuh Expects More National Team Invites For Abia Warriors Players

Abia Warriors Chairman Looks to the Future with Optimism, Anticipates Multiple National Call-Ups

The future is looking bright for Abia Warriors, according to chairman John Obuh. His enthusiasm stems from the recent success of the team, which includes the selection of midfielder Innocent Godwin to represent Nigeria in the African Nations Championship qualifiers against Ghana.

Following Godwin’s call-up, Obuh praised the team’s 1-0 win over Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. This was their first away victory of the 2024-2025 Nigeria Premier Football League season, injecting a healthy dose of morale and confidence into the team’s performance.

In reflecting on the match, Obuh attributed the team’s success to the technical staff, led by Imama Amapakabo, for turning the team’s fortunes around after a rocky start to the season. He commended the players for their spirited display, saying, “The players have been outstanding, and I must commend the Imama Amapakabo-led technical crew for their impressive work in transforming the team’s performance.”

Obuh believes that more players will receive national team call-ups in the near future. “Our players have been consistently impressive, and I’m thrilled to see Innocent Godwin’s selection. It’s a testament to the talent within our squad, and I’m confident that we’ll see more players receive national team honors before the season concludes.”

With Abia Warriors now in fifth place in the NPFL standings, the chairman seizes this as an opportunity to build on their momentum. The team’s next fixture is a highly anticipated Oriental derby against Heartland, set to take place in Umuahia this weekend.
