Rivers Lawmaker Accuses Fubara of Running a Solo Government
In a recent interview with Arise News, Chidi Lloyd, a former Rivers State lawmaker, made some startling claims about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration. According to Lloyd, Fubara is single-handedly running the state government, with no commissioners or appropriation process in place. This comment comes on the heels of a Federal High Court judgment that prohibits the Central Bank of Nigeria from disbursing funds to Rivers State, prompting the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to threaten to halt all duties performed by its members unless the decision is reversed.
Lloyd’s remarks sparked controversy, and he went further to highlight the need for greater protections for judicial officers. “It’s unfortunate that we’ve normalized disparaging remarks about our judicial officers,” he said. “I implore the National Assembly to consider legislation that criminalizes aspersions on judicial officers, as they must be protected.”
The former lawmaker also weighed in on the issue of defections, specifically referencing Martins Amaewhule and his colleagues, who allegedly announced their intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Lloyd made it clear that this action did not meet the legal definition of defection, stating, “A mere announcement on the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly does not amount to defection in the eyes of the law.”
