Man Accused of Crimes Secures Release After Meeting Bail Terms

VeryDarkMan Regains Freedom After Meeting Bail Conditions

Social Media Activist, Martins Otse, Released on Bail Following Police Arrest

After his arraignment on charges of impersonation, prominent social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been released on bail by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). As part of the bail conditions, he was ordered to post a sum of N2 million and provide two sureties, each providing the same amount.

VeryDarkMan was also instructed to surrender his international passports and identification documents, as part of the bail terms. This follows his arrest after the release of a viral video where he appeared in a police uniform, claiming to be the “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the online division.” The police condemned this portrayal as unauthorized.

The NPF launched an investigation to determine how Otse obtained the uniform and under whose authority he acted. In response to the video, Otse issued an apology to the police, clarifying that his actions were not intended to impersonate the agency. He expressed his intention to use the medium to caution the public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using items that may resemble their uniforms.

“Using a police uniform without permission may seem harmless, but it could lead to misunderstandings and misuse,” Otse explained. “It’s essential to get full approval before using anything that may be misconstrued as impersonating the police.” He concluded by thanking the police for their diligence in uncovering the truth and for defending the integrity of the police force.
