Caretaker Coach Augustine Eguavoen Eyes Super Eagles’ Success in CHAN Qualifiers

The road to the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualification has become a high-stakes affair for the Super Eagles, as they prepare to face their longtime rivals, Ghana, in a two-legged tie. The Super Eagles know this will be a tough test, as they have struggled to get past the Black Stars in their previous attempts.

In the past, the Super Eagles have been unsuccessful in their qualifying matches against Ghana, with the Black Stars emerging victorious in 2009 and 2022. These defeats have only intensified the rivalry between the two nations, making this upcoming encounter even more pressing.

In an exclusive interview with NFF TV, Eguavoen demonstrated his confidence in the team’s chances, acknowledging the intense competition they face against Ghana, stating, “When we meet the Ghanaian team, it’s always a tough match. We’re counting on luck to be on our side.”

Eguavoen emphasized the importance of preparation and perseverance, assuring fans that the team will approach the matches with a strong work ethic and well-thought-out strategies to secure their spot in the tournament.

“For the game, we will work hard and develop strategies to ensure we’re in the next CHAN,” he said.

Eguavoen was also impressed with the quality of the home-based Super Eagles players, praising their technical abilities. However, he stressed that they still need to work on blending the players from different clubs into a cohesive unit.

The crucial two-legged qualifying contest is scheduled for December, with the overall winners earning a spot in CHAN 2025, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
