Tragedy Strikes: 48-Year-Old Vigilante Member Shot, Set Ablaze in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Michael Nnaji, a 48-year-old vigilante member and businessman. The attack occurred in the Ngbo Amaka community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

According to State Police Spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the command has launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred on Tuesday night. Ukandu revealed that the details of the attack are still unfolding.

A family member who preferred to remain anonymous shared a harrowing account of the incident. “At around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, two masked men on a motorcycle arrived at Mike’s place of business,” they said. “They entered the compound from different directions, one from the front door and the other from the back door. They then made their way to the living room where Mike was relaxing and shot him twice.”

Another family member, who was in the vicinity, recalled, “I was at the shop when the attack occurred. I heard the gunshot and rushed out to see what was happening. One of the attackers grabbed my phone and dragged me to the house, but I managed to free myself and escape to a nearby compound.”

As a result of the chaos, most of the residents fled for their safety, leaving the attackers and the victim. The attackers then set the house on fire and fled the scene. Due to the violence, Nnaji’s corpse was severely burnt, along with many other household items, including deep freezers, televisions, and cars.

The family is still trying to come to terms with the senseless murder of a man who was known for his quiet and jovial nature. The question on everyone’s mind is, who could have committed such a heinous act?
