Rivers State Government Dispels Rumors of NNPCL and Oil Companies Shutdown
Naijawebinfo has received reports suggesting that River State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil companies in the state. However, the Rivers State government has refuted this claim, labeling it as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the government urged Rivers residents to disregard the report, as it is based on unfounded rumors and misinformation.
According to the statement, the attention of the Rivers State Government was drawn to a spurious news item circulating on social media about the alleged shutdown of NNPCL and oil companies. However, the government emphasized that the report is baseless and represents the imagination of the author and those who are working against the state’s interest.
The government also highlighted that the medium that published the report has been identified as unverified and inconsequential. Furthermore, Fubara, as a responsible leader, prioritizes the rule of law and does not rely on unconventional or crude methods to govern.
The statement reassured Rivers people and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard the false report, as the governor never considered or directed the shutdown of the economy for any reason. The government stressed that such baseless rumors are designed to mislead and undermine the progress of the state, and urged citizens to remain vigilant and not be swayed by such unfounded claims.
