Chilling Slaughter in Awka: Tragedy Strikes Again, Leaving a Mother Heartbroken

In the latest devastating turn of events, a brutal cult attack claimed the life of Nonso, a young man, near the prestigious Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, also known as Amaku, in broad daylight on Friday. This harrowing incident is just the latest in a string of cult-related atrocities to strike Awka, leaving many families and residents reeling in grief.

Tragedy has befallen Nonso’s family, who have now lost three sons to suspected cult violence. His younger brother, Buchi, was brutally murdered just three months ago near MacDon Eatery, while their eldest brother met a similar fate in an earlier incident. This latest loss has left their mother without a single surviving child, casting a dark shadow over her life.

Awka has become a hotbed of violence, with recent reports indicating a staggering 16 lives lost in Nibo and seven more in Ifite Awka. Despite reassurances from law enforcement agencies, the bloodshed continues to plague the area.

In response to this latest atrocity, Anambra State Police Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam has vowed to undertake a thorough investigation, assuring that no stone will be left unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

A local community, the Ezinano Awka Community, led by Ozo Jeff Nweke, has also chimed in, placing a N10 million bounty on information leading to the capture of those responsible for the recent massacre in Nibo. The community has also issued a stern warning to cultists, urging them to stay away from Awka and its surroundings, reaffirming their commitment to ending the senseless violence that has bedeviled their region.
