The Labour Party (LP) Protests Exclusion from Governorship Debate in Ondo State
A planned TV debate for candidates in the Ondo State governorship election, scheduled to air on November 3rd, has been met with resistance from the Labour Party (LP) after they were excluded from the event.
The debate, organized by Channels Television, listed the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the leading contenders, a move the LP is strongly opposing.
Labour Party’s Director of Publicity, Johnson Egbodofo, released a statement on Saturday, expressing the party’s concerns about the exclusion and the biased label given to the APC and PDP candidates.
“This is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public in Ondo State,” Egbodofo said, adding that the LP’s candidate, Olusola Nehemiah Ebiseni, is equally qualified to participate in the debate.
The party claims they have been in contact with Channels Television to address the issue, stating that it is unfair to allow the debate to proceed with only two candidates represented.
“Labour Party and its candidates in the Ondo State governorship election have taken immediate action to contact Channels Television and its officials, including Seun Okinbaloye, the anchor of the debate, to ensure fair representation of all parties and candidates,” the statement reads.
Egbodofo recalled the LP’s achievements in Ondo State, highlighting its role in empowering the state and its people, and emphasizing the importance of a fair representation of all parties in the debate.
The party is demanding a re-evaluation of the debate’s format to ensure a fair representation of all parties and candidates, given its significant strength and track record in Ondo State.
“If Channels Television cannot ensure a fair and balanced representation of all parties and candidates, we demand they respect their reputation and postpone the debate,” the statement concludes.
