Nigerian gospel singer, Yinka Ayefele, is facing backlash for his recent radio show interview with a former ritualist and hired killer. Despite the negative reactions, Ayefele is calling for empathy and understanding towards his guest, who has confessed to killing 78 people, mostly women.
Ayefele’s decision to hide the individual’s identity was not to protect him, but based on his own moral principles. He believes that labeling this person as a “murderer” could force him back into a life of crime, a choice he had already made in the past before serving his time.
To address the controversy, Ayefele joined Yinka TNT on her online platform for an audio call, where he denied accusations from traditional worshippers claiming he disrespected their practices during the interview.
Ayefele’s message to the public is a call for understanding and for considering the potential consequences of stigmatizing the former criminal. He believes that promoting empathy can lead to positive change and rehabilitation, rather than further isolation and recidivism.
