Cross River State’s Local Government Election: APC Secures Eight Chairmanship Seats
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a significant impact in the recent local government election in Cross River State, with a remarkable nine wins in nine different local government areas. This development has served as a testament to the party’s growing influence in the state.
According to unverified reports from various sources, including Naijawebinfo, the APC has successfully secured chairmanship positions in no less than eight local government areas; Abi, Akamkpa, Akpabio, Bakassi, Bekwarra, Etung, Obudu, and Odukpani.
As announced by the chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), Ekong Boco, the results are as follows: Egballa Bassey, a candidate from the APC, won the chairmanship seat in Abi local government area with 26,265 votes. In Akamkpa LGA, Akposi Felix, another APC candidate, secured the seat with a total of 53,882 votes. Similarly, for Akpabio LGA, APC’s Effiom Effiong emerged victorious with 25,164 votes.
In Bakassi LGA, Okon Etim, a candidate from the APC, won with 12,117 votes, while Ushie Theresa of the same party secured the chairmanship seat in Bekwarra LGA with 31,551 votes. For Etung local government area, Henry Njah won with 18,727 votes, and Oleja Nsepol polled 12,654 votes to become the winner. In Odukpani local government area, Etim Asideo emerged victorious with 41,368 votes.
The delay in announcing the results was attributed to the challenging terrains and long distances to the state capital, as well as the poor road conditions in some areas.
The success of the APC in these local government areas is a testament to its growing influence in the state and its ability to secure critical support from major communities within the state.
