A Blaze Wreaks Havoc on Radio Stations in Aba, Abia State
A fire of unprecedented scale ravaged three radio stations in Aba, Abia State, on Saturday evening, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake. The affected stations, Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM, were all located on the same premise, making it easy for the fire to spread rapidly among them.
Despite operating independently, the stations share the same building, which ultimately facilitated the swift spread of the blaze. However, the Abia State Fire Service successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire began in the television section of Enyimba TV and Radio Limited, the parent company of the three stations, before spreading to the other two. Miraculously, no lives were lost, but the devastating fire destroyed all broadcasting equipment, leaving the stations in complete disarray.
In a statement, Enyimba TV and Radio Limited announced that it is investigating the cause of the fire and has temporarily suspended operations at the three stations to assess the damage and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A firefighter from the Abia State Fire Service emphasized the importance of investing in fire extinguishers and hydrants for business owners to help manage emergencies. The incident has left a significant void in Aba’s broadcasting scene, with listeners on edge, eagerly awaiting updates from the stations on their resumption of broadcasts.
