APC Sweeps Cross River State’s Local Government Elections

Cross River State’s local government elections, held on November 2nd, resulted in a resounding victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Dr. Ekong Boco, Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Calabar, showcasing the APC’s dominance across all 18 local government areas.

The party successfully secured top positions in prominent councils, including Abi, Odukpani, Bakassi, and Calabar South. Following the announcement, Certificates of Return were presented to the victorious candidates.

Governor Bassey Otu congratulated the newly elected officials, describing the elections as peaceful and commending the electorate for their conduct. Expressing optimism about the new leadership, the Governor stated, “We have a well-defined vision for the state, and we believe the new leadership at the local government level will align with our agenda and be dedicated to delivering quality governance to the people.”

Although nine opposition parties, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, participated in the elections, they failed to field candidates in all 196 council wards across the state’s local governments, leaving many APC candidates unopposed.

In the aftermath, the Governor’s office has confidence that the new chairpersons will prioritize good governance and align with the state’s vision and agenda. With this decisive win, the APC has solidified its presence in Cross River State’s local government, looking forward to a positive and productive future for the people.
