PDP Chieftains in Lagos Urge Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections
In a bid to regain its footing in Lagos, top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have emphasized the importance of unity among party members as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. The call to unity was made at a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Diadem, a group of PDP technocrats.
The event, held in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA, coincided with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day. The gathering, which aimed to mobilize 100,000 “organic members” for the party, focused on galvanizing support for the PDP across Lagos’ wards.
Kayode Dayo, the convener and aviation expert, stressed that for the party to regain its composure, members must put aside personal interests and work together to strengthen the PDP in Lagos. “We must unite, we must speak with one voice as we approach 2027,” he emphasized.
Kayode further elaborated that the event sought to celebrate Nigeria’s independence and rally support for the PDP, while also highlighting the need for party members to prioritize unity and work towards a stronger, more robust organization.
Bolaji Akinyemi, a keynote speaker, drew attention to the issues plaguing Nigeria, including corruption, weak leadership, and electoral fraud. He proposed reverting to the 1963 Republican Constitution as a solution, describing it as the only foundational document that reflects the people’s will.
PDP leaders in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA, including Muftau Oyelekan and Alimosho’s Isiaka Shodiya, echoed the call for unity, urging Nigerians to consider the PDP in the 2027 elections. Shodiya emphasized the need for people to vote based on conscience, not money.
As the event concluded, PDP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to mobilizing strong support across Lagos and strengthening the party’s foundation ahead of the next electoral cycle.
