Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, Freed by EFCC After Controversial Detention
Following a dramatic turn of events, popular social media personality and cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has been released on bail after being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for several hours.
The controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s arrest began when he announced on social media that he had been taken into custody at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as he attempted to board a flight to Amsterdam. In his initial post, he shared a harrowing account of the events, stating that he had been injured during the arrest and pleading for help from his followers.
Later, it was revealed that Bobrisky had been taken to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he was questioned over allegations of bribery related to previous money laundering charges. The claims stem from a voice note posted by social media critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, which allegedly shows Bobrisky discussing paying N15 million to EFCC officials to drop the charges.
After a late night of questioning, Bobrisy was released on bail, having completed the necessary procedures. The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the release to the Punch, but declined to provide further details on the matter.
According to sources, during his questioning, Bobrisky categorically denied all bribery claims, challenging the authenticity of the voice note and demanding that the individual responsible for posting it come forward with evidence.
‘He denied the allegations, saying he did not give any money to any official to drop the charges. He denied the allegations in his statement, saying the person who posted the voice note should come forward with evidence to justify it. He also stated that no official asked him for money and he did not give anyone any money’, the source said.
