Heartland Coach-Eyed Upset Win Against Abia Warriors
Emmanuel Amuneke, head coach of Heartland, beamed with pride as his team claimed a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Abia Warriors, securing their first away win in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season.
The match got off to an explosive start when Michael Ogu scored just 12 minutes in, setting the tone for an intense battle. From then on, the Naze Millionaires pushed forward, creating scoring opportunities and securing a dramatic 95th-minute winner from Chukwuma Agor, sending them home with a well-deserved victory.
In his post-match interview, Amuneke expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I’m thrilled; we came here to win, and we achieved our goal.” He added that this win was a significant accomplishment for his team, realizing their aspirations.
Amuneke also acknowledged the Abia Warriors for their spirited performance, commenting, “I must commend their team; they played some excellent football, but we managed to overcome the challenge in the second half.”
Lobi Stars’ Technical Adviser, Daniel Amokachi, described their 1-0 loss to Remo Stars as a tough pill to swallow.
The match took place at the Remo Stars Stadium, where a goal from Michael Ibe proved to be the deciding factor. Despite the setback, Amokachi praised his players for their growing adaptability to his coaching style, commending their efforts.
Regarding his tactical decisions, Amokachi explained, “I opted for a 4-5-1 formation away from home, which suited us well. However, maintaining focus and staying alert is crucial; a moment’s lapse can be costly, as we discovered today.”
