Caretaker Coach Pumps Up Morale with Stunning Win Over Rivers United
Ikorodu City’s caretaker coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has expressed his team’s new determination to continue their winning streak after upsetting top-ranked Rivers United 2-0 at the Onikan stadium in Lagos. The impressive victory has given the team a significant boost in their quest to climb out of the relegation zone.
Despite Rivers United’s unbeaten record and Ikorodu City’s struggles with only five defeats under their belt, the hosts dominated the game from start to finish, ultimately securing their first home win of the season. The turnaround in form is attributed to Aweroro’s guidance, which has instilled a sense of unity and purpose among the players.
“We continue where we stop,” Aweroro emphasized. “The players have been performing exceptionally well, and I want to maintain that momentum. We’ve had a great win, and I’m already thinking ahead to the next game against Katsina United.” The coach’s determination to build on their success is evident, as he’s already shifting his focus to the next match.
Aweroro’s leadership has significantly improved the team’s performance since taking over as caretaker coach. His ability to understand the players’ strengths and styles allows him to orchestrate a cohesive and effective team effort.
This week, Aweroro praised Rivio Ayemwenre, who came off the bench to score the second goal in their 2-0 win over Rivers United. “Rivio is an exceptional player who consistently delivers, whether starting or coming off the bench. His dedication, discipline, and focus make him invaluable to the team,” Aweroro enthused.
Aweroro also paid tribute to Bright Ozegbagbei, the former Ikorodu City coach now heading National League side Ijebu United, who he credits with laying the foundation for the team’s current success. “I’m thrilled by Bright’s new appointment, and I’m grateful for his support during his tenure. We’ve built on the foundation he established, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made,” Aweroro stated.
